THANK YOU!

Posted by Danae on Wednesday, November 14

The DPVA would like to thank all of you for your help during this past election. Because of your support, we managed to pick up several new seats in the House of Delegates and enough new seats in the Virginia Senate to win a majority.

While this is certainly good news for the Democratic Party of Virginia, it is even better news for the people of Virginia. It means that there are more moderate leaders here in Richmond; responsible and reasonable leaders who will partner with Gov. Kaine to find commonsense solutions to the problems we face here in the Commonwealth, while maintaining the successes we've already achieved.  Now we can get down to the business of giving more children the opportunity of a quality pre-kindergarten education, which we know is vital to a student's future success. We can seriously talk about better health care, new energy policies and improved growth and transportation plans that fix abuser fees.

A new majority is also good news for the enormous task of redistricting, which starts next year. Now we can trust district lines to be drawn in a manner that allows voters to elect their lawmakers instead of having lawmakers cherry-pick their constituents.

In addition, a post-election analysis shows that we did extremely well at the local level, too!  We won 99 out of the 159 seats in which a Democrat ran for election. We also achieved either a working majority (including Democrat-leaning Independents) or a clear majority in Montgomery, Stafford, Loudoun, and Albemarle Counties. Plus two Democrats won seats on the Chesterfield Boards of Supervisor. One ran as a Democrat the other ran as Independent.

None of this would be possible without YOU. Many of you gave of your money and time, making calls and knocking on doors. Most importantly, you went out to vote!

So from the staff of the Democratic Party of Virginia- THANK YOU!

Now it's on to victory in '08 with a Democratic president and Mark Warner as our new U.S. Senator!
