In Case You Missed It: Jeff Frederick's Rough Week
Frederick, RPV face blowback for overblown accusations
It took Jeff Frederick less than two months as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia to attract the attention of TIME magazine.
Jeff may not be their "Man of the Year," but his attempt to scare Virginians away from voter registration drives was deemed the "Sleazy Campaign Tactic of the Day" by the magazine's Swampland political blog.
Frederick alleged earlier this week that three arrests in Hampton Roads and an unseen affidavit in Richmond were evidence of "coordinated and widespread" voter fraud efforts across Virginia.
Based on shallow evidence, Frederick made an attempt to scare voters from participating in legal registration drives that encourage voters to participate in this historic election. According to the Washington Post, "Frederick made a public plea for people not to register when approached by a canvasser because of the risk of falling victim to identity theft."
Frederick was unable to provide further examples, prompting rebukes both from TIME and the Roanoke Times editorial board. The Washington Post and Virginian-Pilot joined in over the weekend.
