Video Highlights Goode's Ties to Big Oil
Fifth District Citizens Respond to "The Price Isn't Right"

September 2, 2008—Ivy, VA—As Americans come off a Labor Day weekend with travel down because of crushing gas prices, the Perriello campaign released a web video featuring fifth district citizens responding to questions about Rep. Virgil Goode's ties to Big Oil. The video may be viewed at www.perrielloforcongress.com.

"This video is a humorous way to learn how Congressman Goode personally and politically benefits from Big Oil, but the facts of the video should not be taken lightly," said Jessica Barba, communications director for the Perriello campaign. "Virgil Goode has had 12 years in Washington to do something about gas prices and energy independence, and all we've seen is more handouts to the oil companies. It's no wonder the solutions he offers will save Americans only two cents on the gallon, while his oil investments have gone up 800%."

In the video, citizens are asked three questions:
  1. Of the 435 members of Congress, where does Virgil Goode rank in terms of personal holdings in Big Oil? Answer: Top 3% (Source: Sunlight Foundation, www.sunlightfoundation.com)
  2. What was the price of gas when Virgil Goode first took office? Answer: $1.25 a gallon (Source: Energy Information Administration, www.eia.doe.gov)
  3. How much money has Virgil Goode taken from Big Energy corporations in his career? Answer: Over $110,000 (Source: Center for Responsive Politics, www.opensecrets.org)
